Ryan's Rant February 12, 2009

By: John Ryan     Date: Feb 12, 2009
Print Article

Ryan's Weekly Rant - Wow, first A-Road and now Phelps. Doesn't - or perhaps should I say wouldn't - the US Congress have better pursuits to full fill . Like getting the economy started for starters. Drugs being dealt to our nation's youth is at epidemic levels and has been for decades. Wouldn't that be a better pursuit than nailing A-Rod for something quite minor that happened more than 6 years ago. We still do not know if those substances he tested positive for were even on the banned list in 2003. What about the other 103 names on that list. Same with Phelps. For one picture of him with a bong to his mouth suddenly the government is going after him. Wouldn't it be a bit better served for the local FBI offices to start under cover sting operations outside of our public schools? and yes the private schools too? instead, and because of celebrity status, the whistle blowers attack these high profile people with anything that might stick in a court of law. if it were the common man, there would not even be a tilt in the direction of prosecuting a picture. Our society has really become a society of double and triple standards and it transcends right into the heart of our financial system. Until that changes, a stimulus package has no chance of accomplishing it's goals. It always comes down to two simple premises regarding these "suspects". Were they truly sorry for what they did? or were they more sorry they got caught? Ok. there's the rant. Now, let's take a look at some CBB stats and forecasts that may prove useful as we near the beginning of March Madness. Many Say Florida State is on the bubble, but they are already at 19-5 and 6-3 in the ACC. The biggest win for them was a huge road comeback at Clemson this last Saturday where they were down 19 points. Plus, FSU has a RPI of 20 and SOS of 32, which assures them of their first dance since the 1998 season. Maryland is the team in the ACC that more than likely will be a NIT bid. They are a solid 15-8, but just 4-5 in the ACC. They also have a weak 74 RPI and 72 SOS so even with more wins their chances are not strong. V-Tech has a far better chance of getting in as they are 16-7 and an impressive 6-3 in the ACC. Their RPI is also a solid 43 and SOS 46. In summary, I think there will be 6 teams from the ACC. UNC, Duke, Clemson, Wake, FSU, and V-tech.
